We’ve all seen it portrayed in media, Police and Private Detectives in mutually beneficial relationships. We mentioned before, usually, Policemen are often shown in a negative light in media while Private Detectives are shown in a positive light. So the benefits for the Private Detectives include gaining information they wouldn’t usually be privy to or allowed to enter places they aren’t meant to be. The benefit for the cops are, well, more monetary. Furthering the trope of the corrupt cop in media. But looking at the world around us, isn’t it possible that even in the real world, a mutually beneficial relationship between Police and Private Detectives is possible?
We don’t mean this in the sense that Policemen accept bribes to give Private Detectives information they’re not supposed to have. I have massive respect for all law enforcement agencies and commend the work they do. But given how the world is laid out in front of us, it’s only logical to use a ‘you rub my back, I rub yours’ arrangement. There are things that Private Detectives can do that policemen just aren’t allowed. Regardless of how serious the issue is, the Policemen have to follow the law to the word and in some way, it stops them from effectively doing what needs to be done in order to prevent crimes.
Private Detectives, on the other hand don’t have that kind of pressure to stick to the law. They can use their contacts and all the skills and gadgets available to them to do what needs to be done. Morally, it might seem iffy, but when push comes to shove, I’m sure we’d all rather have the good guys win with a few minor rules broken here and there than have the bad guys win. Similarly, Policemen can help Private Detectives by opening up access to the huge database of information available to them. Any Private Detective worth his salt would love to have that kind of database available to them.
Again, the setup might seem less than welcome but we have to realize that criminals won’t stop at anything to do what they want and the Police and Private Detectives have to do anything within their power to stop criminals with as less collateral damage as possible. And if that means having certain unsavory alliances, well, I say go for it.
